Tennessee Calling II Competition Winners

Three lucky bartenders are off to the home of Jack Daniel’s in Lynchburg, Tennessee, to learn more about whiskey while gaining unprecedented access into the barrel houses and warehouse with the master distiller, Jeff Arnett, after winning the Tennessee Calling II cocktail competition run by Jack Daniel’s across the North West of England.

The competition was launched in Liverpool in October, with the 10 finalists being assessed by a team of judges who visited their bars this week, marking them on entrepreneurialism, creativity and quality.

The judges included London Cocktail Club co-founder JJ Goodman and Erik Lorincz, head bartender at The Savoy’s American Bar, along with Cam Dawson (Jack Daniel’s UK brand ambassador) and Nidal Ramini (Brown-Forman’s head of brand advocacy for northern Europe).

40ml Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey
20ml Homemade raspberry shrub (6% ABV)
10ml Martini Riserva Speciale Rubino
20ml Homemade thyme sugar syrup (2:1)
15ml Freshly squeezed lemon juice
25m Two Chicks pasteurised egg white
Garnish: Thyme sprig, Angostura Bitters
Shake all ingredients with ice and strain back into shaker. Dry shake and fine-strain into a chilled Nick & Nora glass. Garnish with a thyme sprig and Angostura Bitters dashes.

Meet Me at Lynchburg Highway
50ml Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey
15ml Sparkling wine spiced cordial
5ml Cynar
1 dashes La Fée Parisienne absinthe
1 dash Peychaud’s Bitters
Garnish: Lemon zest twist
Firstly, infuse Jack Daniels with mint stems. Stir all ingredients with ice and strain into a chilled Nick & Nora glass. Garnish with a lemon zest twist (discarded).

10ml Tobacco liqueur
2 dashes Miracle Mile Toasted Pecan Bitters

 

 

Together they will then go on to create, plan and host an event at one of the world’s best cocktail bars, The Dead Rabbit Grocery & Grog in New York City, under the mentorship and expertise of the Dead Rabbit team.

The other seven finalists were: Shane Kilgarriff of Peggy’s Bar in Manchester, Josh Allen of Tipple Cocktails in Lancaster, Jo Last of The Domino Club in Leeds, Jack Bishop of Filter & Fox in Liverpool, Toby Boyce of Santa Maluco in Liverpool, Alastair McCarroll of Chamber 36 in Liverpool, and Nathan Larkin of Fizzy Tarté in Bowness-on-Windermere in the Lake District.
