From Sipsmith to Small Beer

Ex-Sipsmith Gin stalwarts James Grundy and Felix James have launched Small Beer Brew Co., a low alcohol brewery in Bermondsey, London, dedicated to brewing beers between 0.5% and 2.8.% ABV.

They claim it is "the world's first small beer brewery" and have adopted an eco-friendly and sustainable approach to brewing. Each pint of Small Beer only uses 1.5 pints of water, as opposed to the ten it normally takes to make a normal beer, whilst they also claim to be the only brewery to adapt a "Dry Floor" policy, choosing not to hose down their floor each day.

Their first two brews, a 2.1% ABV Pilsner-style lager, made with British malt and Saaz hops, and a 1% ABV dark lager, are available at London bars The Savoy, The Arts Club, Balthazar, and The National Theatre, as well as bottle shops Bambuni & Franklin, Waterintobeer and Flock & Herd butchers.
